2 years ago SIMON CHAINSAW was well on the way. His band S.C.H.K. (SIMON CHAINSAW & THE HIPPY KILLERS) from Brazil had released their disc TOLD ME A LIE to rave reviews. They were touring around Brazil, showcased at POPKOMM (Germany’s biggest music expo) in BERLIN (thanks to MUTTIS BOOKING BURO) and were recording their second platter.
Offers to play in other South American countries were coming in and all seemed like the RAWK’n wagon train was firmly a’rollin’! But just then a wheel came off and the S.C.H.K. rawking ground to a holt! Apparently, the extra commitment required to move the band up to the next level was more than some members were able to give and one by one they left. Simon looked for replacements, but the vibe just wasn’t there so about 18 months ago S.C.H.K. played their last show and shut up shop.
Never any doubt in Simon’s mind, he took a few months off, then while still pissed about the demise of S.C.H.K., channeled that anger into his latest solo disc ALPHA NEGRA which already has scored 4.5 beers (that’s aussie for stars!!) out of 5 in it’s first review! (check it out at www.i94bar.com)
Punk anger, rawking solos, and a big bottom end mixed with pop hooks, air punching choruses and a metal edge are seeing this disc being hailed his best yet! ALPHA NEGRA sees Simon’s songwriting is going from strength to strength… I DRINK, REACH FOR THE SKY and HOOKERS & BUMS are set to be this years hits while YOU AIN’T ME and STICKING UP FOR MYSELF will be every pissed off guys anthems.
ALPHA NEGRA is just the start to what looks like will be a very interesting year for Simon Chainsaw. Also marked for release this year is a 4 CD Box set “JOHNNY RIO’S SONIC RANCHO SESSIONS”. A collection of 4 unreleased albums recorded at the “Johnny Rios Sonic Rancho” in Berlin & “Johnny Rio’s Sonic Hideaway” in Rio de Janeiro over the last 8 years!... check it out here!
SIMON CHAINSAW draws the richness of his life’s experiences for songwriting inspiration but on ALPHA NEGRA he is definitely not dwelling on the past. Unhindered by a band-type situation and now, as a solo artist, his horizons have opened immeasurably.
